Located at 5321 North Clark Street, Alamo Shoes is nestled in the heart of Chicago’s historic north-side Andersonville neighborhood. Originally a far-flung suburb of Chicago that was home to a cherry orchard and little else, industrious Swedish immigrants began arriving to the area in the late 1800s and by the early 20th century, Andersonville was the heart of the Swedish community in Chicago. This Swedish heritage is still on proud display in the many Swedish owned businesses and cultural institutions, from the neighborhood favorite Swedish Bakery and the Swedish American Museum to Midsommarfest, one of Chicago's largest and most popular street festivals.

Beginning in the late 1980s, Andersonville began a period of social and economic revival that continues to this day. While still home to many of Chicago’s Swedish descendants, Andersonville now represents a diverse cross section of Chicago’s population with one of the largest LGBT communities in the city, along with many Hispanic and Middle Eastern families and businesses.

Over the last 30 years, Andersonville has transformed into one of Chicago’s premiere shopping and dining destinations. With dozens of restaurants, coffee houses, bars, art galleries, antique stores, vintage shops, book sellers, artisanal grocers, and retail establishments all a short stroll down Clark Street, Alamo Shoes customers can easily spend an entire day breaking in their new shoes while exploring the neighborhood.

Alamo Shoes makes it easy for customers to come visit by providing a free parking lot for those traveling by car; for those traveling by public transportation, Andersonville is served by several CTA bus and rail lines.

Public Transit:
Visitors to Alamo Shoes can take the #22 Clark bus right to our door, and the #36 Broadway, #50 Ashland, or #92 Foster busses are all a short walk away.

For those traveling by rail, the Berwyn Red Line station is the closest ‘L’ stop, while the Ravenswood Metra station is the best option for those coming from the suburbs by train.
